Here's a little blurb from Momma's point of view:
On Wednesday May 23rd at 4:00 pm I had an appointment with my doctor. My doctor performed a procedure to see if my body would go into labor ("sweeping the membranes"). We also set an appointment for induction on Sunday. At 10:00 that night my contractions became more regular, about 20 minutes apart. By 2:00 on Thursday morning my contractions were 7 minutes apart, lasting around 2 minutes. We called our doctor and headed to the hospital. After an exam and monitoring, we concluded that the contractions were not progressing my labor. They gave me some medicine to stop my contractions and dismissed me from the hospital at 11:00 Thursday morning. Justin and I headed home, exhausted from being up all night. The medicine wore off and by 5:00 that evening my contractions were back to 7 minutes apart. I called my doctor, who examined me and determined I was in active labor. We headed to the hospital where I was closely monitored because of the pre-eclampsia. My contractions were double peaking at 7 minutes apart and lasting about 2 minutes. After discussing everything with my doctor, we decided on an epidural to allow me to rest and prepare for delivery. I was on some medication for the pre-eclampsia that slowed my labor, so I was then given some Pitocin to speed up labor. At 5:00 am on Friday morning I started to push. Two and a half hours later, at 7:21 am, our beautiful baby boy was born, weighing 8 pounds 6 oz, 22 inches long!
